The sharing of array space between characters (Holleriths) and integers makes getting rid of hollerith constants almost impossible without rewriting large parts of the code. The LABEL subroutine is especially bad and needs to be rewritted as two separate routines one to operate when ichar==0 and the other when ichar i either a blank or a period. Decomp is another routine which appears to be passed character arrays (arguments 9 and 12) that are declared integer in the calling routine and share integer and character data in that routine.

The code provided is the version as supplied using Holleriths and was compiled using Sun f77 with no checking.
